Monday - Rimmel 60 Seconds - Green With Envy.

Monday – Rimmel 60 Seconds – Green With Envy.
For some reason this is the only polish in the 60 second range that I own with the smaller brush, because this is a thicker formula it makes application tricky for me, two coats needed and totally worth the hassle. Fourth time I’ve worn this, which is a record.

Tuesday - Revlon Matte Suede - Ruby Ribbon.

Tuesday – Revlon Matte Suede – Ruby Ribbon.
I hunted this one down after falling in love with Emerald City from the same range, again this is semi matte and very fast drying, so fast that it dried whilst I was dipping my brush for more product, so I had to remove the first coat as it turned gloopy, I don’t like these smaller brushes but the color and finish make up for the chew on.

Wednesday - Rimmel Lasting Finish - Rose Orchid and Funky Diva.

Wednesday – Rimmel Lasting Finish – Rose Orchid and Funky Diva.
Rose Orchid looked like a pastel shimmery milky pink in the bottle but kind of blended in with my natural colour on the nail, I was expecting this to be sheer as most pale colours are but it was totally opaque after two coats. I painted my ring finger with Funky DIva and used two coats, I have no idea what happened as it turned matte when it dried yet the dots stayed glossy, if you look closely you can see the glossy finish where I didnt paint over the first coat with my second coat. Weird.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon manicure - Navy Baby.I fell in love with the colour as soon as I saw it in the bottle. I love the Complete Salon Manicure range and have seen so many shades that I would like. It claims to include a base coat and top coat all in the one formula, I've not tried it without a base coat but I can get away without a top coat when wearing these. The large shaped brush can be tricky but I know that once I have mastered it, it will make application so much easier. I expected staining because of the intense colour but my nails are clean as a whistle ( apart from previous staining)

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Dorien Grey.Another great shade from the Complete Salon Manicure Range. I thought this one may have required more coats as its a light colour but two was all that I needed. I ended up using a top coat with this one as it didnt dry as shiney as Navy Baby. These have a decent drying time, I was able to use my hands for most household crap after 5 mins, with a neater application than I managed this range has the potential to look like a professional manicure.

Because I wasted so much time on the failed nail design I had to polish my nails quick so I painted alternating nails with L.A Colours – Nuclear Energy and Revlon – Gold coin. Nuclear energy required three coats, quite happy with the colour and formula, decent drying time too, Gold Coin seems to have dried up, I only bought it a month or so ago, I think it may something to do with how I store them as I noticed another polish almost totally dried out which I only bought in Summer, kind of like the fluid has gone but the glitter is left behind. I managed to get it to apply even and I like how it looks textured but feels nice and smooth on the nail. You cant see it but I added alternating uv and glow top coats so im covered whatever the lighting is at the concert.

View All My Polish and Swatches Here I’ll be updating the page on a weekly basis.

Sadly two of my nails broke this week and they just looked really odd so they all had to be shortened. I took great pleasure in indulging in one of my past disgusting habits, I bit them all down to size! I feel naked with short nails  but it is interesting to see how my polish looks totally different on my stubs.

Lava Flow is a white polish packed with glitter. One coat would have done but I always apply two, the glitter disperses evenly and the polish has  a decent drying time, the glitter does not feel grainy once its dry which is a mega plus for me, if I can feel the glitter on my nail then it sets my teeth on edge. Eugh!

Revlon Matte Suede- Emerald City.

I picked this polish up yesterday,  its  a little thicker than the other Revlons I own and suprisingly one coat would have been sufficient, the second really brought the shimmer to life. This polish is not totally matte as I had initally belived. The semi matte finish teamed with the subtle shimmer gives the finished nail a look of velvet which is unlike any other polish I own. The drying time is excellent, I was able to crochet ten minutes after application, normally I have to wait several hours! I applied a matte top coat to see what it would look like totally mattified and although I like both, I prefer the way Revlon intended it to be.  I have a Sally Hansen polish by the same name, I’ll have to compare the colours when I remember.

I am trying to work my way through my untrieds and I needed something that dried quickly as I left it late to paint my nails. I chose Instyle Coral because its dark enough outside my window without having darkness on my nails. If I have too much darkness around me it affects my mood. I applied two coats but on closer inspection I should have used three, as its pretty streaky, drying time is really great, I had no sheet printsthis morning despite painting my nails only 30 mins before getting into bed, I usually have to paint them a good two hours before bed and even then I regulary get sheet prints. Its handy to know that I can use the 60 Seconds range in a rush.

Technic Glitters – Bonanza.

The wired polish was still going strong so I just added a coat of Bonanza over the top, in the bottle it looks like a blue base with blue glitter but its actually a black base, despite being really watery it had great coverage., and you can see that just one coat totally changed the Wired underneath. This stuff really stinks though so I doubt it will be getting much use.

I had another go at stamping today and the results are getting better but are far from perfect. Shocking is a very bright pink/fuscia which lives up to its name.  I doubt I’ll ever use on my hands again, but come Summer time this will be perfect for the feet.

Tuesday 6th November.

Products Used: Essie Fill The Gap

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Camouflage.

Essie – Navigate Her.

Essie – Case Study.

Sinful Colors – Last Chance.

Sally Hansen Super Shine.

Nail Art Brushes.

My metallic dotty manicure lasted well so I didn’t need to do my nails yesterday, and for today I wanted to mess about with nail art, I decided to try a camouflage look after reading 2girlsandsomepolish’s blog, its something I had been wanting to try for a while but I kept putting it off as it looked difficult and a bit of a chew on, I originally was going to use a dotting tool but decided on using just my nail art brushes for the camo effect. I painted all my nails in Camouflage Green (apt name) execpt my ring finger, on which I applied two coats of Essie’s Navigate Her, I then used my nail art brushes to blob on the other colours randomly.

I was suprised at how easy, simple and quick this was to do and wish I’d used Navigate Her as a base on all my nails as I’d have done every finger this way. I reckon this design would be easy to do with the non dominant hand as you can’t really make a mistake.

Wednesday 7th November.

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Desert Beauty.

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Shocker.

Sally Hansen Super Shine.

Not really excited about todays nails, I applied 3 coats of Desert Beauty on top of my base coat, it applied evenly but after three coats was still very sheer, not what it looks like in the bottle at all. I’ll use this as a top layer in future, despite its sheerness a lot of brush strokes were still visible. I intended to paint flowers on them using Shocker but my little girl suggested hearts. I painted a v and my little girl said they would do so I basically left it at that.

Thursday 8th November.

Products Used: Essie Fill The Gap.

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Sky High.

Sally Hansen Super Shine.

I live in the UK and sunshine is rare here, even in Summer, but sometimes it comes out and the clouds piss off and the sky is the most beautiful shade of blue, the colour of this polish matches that shade perfectly and it made me even happier when it applied like a dream, two coats, totally opaque and dried quickly. The photo really does not do this colour justice, the sun is no where to be seen lately and my flash goes off even outdoors its that muggy :(

Friday 9th November.

Products Used: Essie Fill The Gap.

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Magnetise.

Sally Hansen Super Shine.

I really don’t like the Super Shine as a top coat, there is nothing actually bad about it, I just loved the Mega Shine so much and this seems crap in comparison. I’m sad that its empty. I’m gonna use all this up though before I buy another Mega Shine. Today I used Rimmel’s Magnetise, another bleugh. It would be lovely if I could get it opaque, I have used three coats here and its still a bit sheer. I didn’t have the time to do more but one day I will try more coats as I love the colour, easy to apply and dried quickly.

Sunday 11th November.

Products Used: Rimmel 60 Seconds – Magnetise.

Rimmel Lasting Finish – Double Decker Red.

Boots Natural Collection – French Tip White.

Pink Tease Mini – Black

Avon Color Trend Glitters – Fuscia Dazzle.

With today being Remembrance Sunday there was no question that I would be (attempting) to include poppies in todays nails. Its the very very least I can do to thank all the brave people who have given their lives for me to be here, and to thank the brave men and women who continue to do so. I have been wearing my poppy with pride and have one pinned to each jacket and bag I own and have donated to many charities also. I’m saddened to see less and less people wearing the poppies with each passing year.

I applied another three coats of Magentise to freshen up Fridays nails, there was minor signs of tip wear and no chipping which is great considering I didn’t use a top coat, I then used my dotting tools to dot on a couple of poppies on both middle fingers, I applied two coats of Avon’s Color Trend Fuscia Dazzle on the rest of my fingers. This was really tricky to work with as the glitter did not stick to the brush so I had to dab it on, its still dried evenly with no grainy texture and it dried quickly too.

Tuesday 23rd October.

Products used: Essie Fill The Gap Base Coat.

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Coral Crush (89p in Boyes)

Sally Hansen Mega Shine .

As always I started with a coat of Essie’s Fill The Gap Base Coat, followed by two coats of Rimme’s Coral Crush and I finished off with a coat of Sally Hansen’s Mega Shine.

Forumla is great to work with, perfect consistencey(sp?) and a lovely wide brush which makes application a doddle. I cant say how much I love these wider brushes, they make my life so much easier and save me a lot of time. I know this more of a summer colour but to be honest I wear whatever colour I feel like regardless of the season. The weather here in the UK is miserable at the moment and I miss the short summer we did have, putting a bright colour on my nails makes me feel a little happy inside so I say balls to the season rules.

Wednesday 24th October.

Products Used: Essie Fill The Gap Base Coat.

Rimmel 60 Seconds – Camouflage –  Green With Envy – Star Kissed and Instyle Coral. All 89p in Boyes.

Over the top of Essie’s Fill The Gap I applied two coats of Camouflage on each nail except my ring finger, formula is great and another wide brush for easy application, this was opaque in one coat but I always apply two coats. On my ring finger I apllied three coats of Green With Envy, this has a smaller brush and the formula was much more watery, a fourth coat would have been better but I knew I wanted to paint on a flower. I used one of my Daughter’s brushes to paint a flower using Star Kissed on my ring finger and then added a little blob of Instyle Coral for the centre of the flower. As you can see I need practice with this. These dried very quickly.

Yes Love Magnetic Polish – Blue and Purple.

Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat.

I picked these magnetic polishes up in Spain on my first visit there in August. I think I paid about two euros and I have mixed feeling about these now that I have finally tried them out. I started with a thin coat of purple on all my nails except second from little finger on which I applied the blue, followed by a thicker second coat. I painted one nail at a time and found that you have to work fast with these as they seem to set pretty quickly, the results with the magnets were inconsistant, one nail would look great and then the next hardly noticable. It didnt matter as by the next morning most of the magnetic affect had faded and I was left with a really weird finish. Its put me off trying any more magnetic polishes, I will use the polish on its own in future as it gave a good metallic finish.

Friday 26th October.

Products Used: Avon Revitacool Base Coat.

Sinful Colors – Mercury Rising and Serena and Chloe.

Sally Hansen Mega Shine.

After seeing the SilverNail’s swatch of Mercury Rising I remembered how much I loved the colour so I had to wear it, and after reading MommyLovesNailPolish’s description of using a dotting tool I wanted to try them too. I had been doing it all wrong so no wonder my dots were uneven. I painted each finger in two coats of Mercury Rising, this applied evenly and two coats were perfect, I then applied Serena and Chloe to my thumbs, this shade was more sheer and required three coats, I would have done four had I not been dotting over it, I then used my dotting tool to stamp on nine dots with Mercury Rising and used the smaller end to place a smaller dot with mercury rising inside the larger dot, once it was all dry I applied a coat of Mega Shine, which really brought the Mercury Rising to life.

Sunday 29th October.

Products Used: Revitacool Base Coat.

Sally hansen Insta-Dri – Brisk Blue

Claire’s Cosmetics Blue Glitter Top Coat.

Sally hansen Mega Shine.

I stuck my hand in my polish collection and the one I grabbed was Brisk Blue, I wore this not too long ago so I picked up my Blue Glitter top coat from a set of mini glitters which I purchases from newcastle airport earlier in the year. I’ve been putting off wearing glitters as they are a pain in the arse to remove but today I thought SOD IT,  I applied two coats of Brisk Blue over my base coat, I love everything about this polish from the shape of the bottle to the shape of the brush. This was truly opaque with just one coat but as always I applied two. The second coat didn’t bring anything to the table so next time I shall just use one coat. As much as I like this shade it just seemed a bit bleugh today so I began applying the top coat and thats when the magic happened.

From looking into the bottle the formula seemed a light blue watery base with blue and purple micro glitter, which if I am honest looked sparse, so as you can imagine I was not expecting much from this product. Boy  oh boy was I suprised when I began applying, this holds so much glitter its unbelievable and whats better is it looks dramatic yet subtle and this is the first ever glitter polish I have used which dispersed the glitter evenly, I did not have to dab or poke with my brush once which is a big plus for me as doing that tends to ruin my polish underneath, one coat looked fabulous and the second coat made the colour look amazing, almost holographic,  as with all good manicures the photos really do not do this polish justice. Average drying time with MegaShine top coat. This would probably work well on its own too. The only downside is the size of the brush, because its a minature it felt a bit awkward to handle but if the others shades in the set look as great as this I’ll get over it.

My favourite of the week has to be the Brisk Blue with Blue Glitter combo. What do you think?

Black Pearl.

I asked my husband what colour he thought I should do my nails and he gave black as a half arsed reply so after applying my Essie Base Coat (I must get another bottle soon as this is almost half empty) I applied a coat Rimmel’s Black Pearl.  The formula is great and was opaque in two thin coats, I love the big wide brush which allowed me to cover each nail evenly in two strokes. It dried true to what it appears in the bottle with blue and silver micro shimmer which looks amazing when caught in the light.  Black Matte seems to be a bit of a trend at the moment so being the sheep that I am I applied a coat of my new Attitude Matte Top Coat and waited for the transformation, and waited, nothing happened. I’m assuming the Rimmel’s anti-fade colour system does it job well so I applied another Matte top coat and noticed some transformation. The whole lot dried to unsmudgeable levels within ten mins. Less than 12 hours later and this is the condition of the polish, lots of tip wear, is it possible the Matte finish gives less protection? I have worn this polish before and it lasted several days.

Aqua.

I have read a lot of nice things about this polish so when I spotted it in Poundland I snapped it up. I applied it over my Essie base coat, the brush is very thin, which I don’t really like as it takes a lot of strokes to cover my nail, for a small brush it picks up a lot of product which made application tedious as I was continuosly wiping off excess polish.

The first coat was pretty sheer and streaky, I had a lot of visible brush strokes and felt like giving up and removing the whole lot. I didn’t though and boy am I glad as the second coat brought this to life. It dried true to the colour in the bottle and although you can see slight brush strokes I think it adds depth.

The shine on this is amazing too however it took forever to try and I mean forever, I had pretty nails when I went to bed by which time the polish had had a good four hours to dry and this is what my right hand looked like when I woke.

Big Sinful Fail, its a shame as I love the colour.

Midnight And Metal.

I fancied dark nails today and Im still trying to work through my untrieds so I painted three fingers in Midnight Blue and two in Violet Metal.  I then used my Salon Express Stamping Kit to stamp a zebra type pattern over the Violet Metal nails using the Midnight Blue Polish which you cant quite see in image.

Midnight Blue has a gorgeous dark blue shimmer which I could not pick up with my camera due to the weather being lame, its not as black as it seem, its a lovely colour, you’ll just have to trust me. As you can see though I had slight tip wear within a few hours. I’m not having much polish luck this week. :( Lovely wide brush made application easy and polish just right consistancey, two coats for perfection.

Violet Metal needed three coats but since I knew I was stamping over it I only applied two, slighty watery that Midnight Blue but still easy to work with.

Pink Madness.

This is my breast cancer awareness mani. i had trouble choosing a pink so I just used them all. I painted each finger ina different polish. I used three coats on each nail but some could have done with more to be honest.

From Pinkie to Thumb **Missguided, Misstify, –Essie, Mod  Squad, — NYC,MoMa — Sinful Colors, Scandal — Sally Hansen Extreme Wear, Pink Boa**

Sadly there is nothing extreme about the Extreme Wear! very watery and it chipped as soon as it dried…

Pretty crap nails this week. Hopefully next weeks will be better.

A Strip Of Gold – (24th September)

Today has been a relaxing peaceful day, I should be working on ironing and getting all the clothes put away but I thought sod it. My Fiance is off work this week and it was nice to have a wander into town, I needed (well wanted) a new white nail polish and I was happy to find Sally Hansen’s Hard as Nails in White in Poundland. We had a Mcdonalds and it was nice to just sit and forget about the chaos at home for a little while, the weather was windy and pissing down so it was lovely to collect my Daughter from school and slip into a pjs and do not much of anything all evening.

My half and half polish is still going strong so I wanted to keep it but felt it was missing something. I had a browse through my collection and found my Technic Nail Art Polishes, my daughter and fiance chose gold and all I did was paint a strip over the joining two colours on each finger and applied my Mega Shine Top Coat – Job Done..  I think the gold gives it a whole new look, one which I like.. The Polish itself is quite thin and runs down the striper brush very quickly so you need to work fast or make sure you have removed all the excess, despite being thin it applied evenly and one coat is enough. I plan to get the other set of three but will purchase from Boyes this time as they are only £1.49 there.

Crackley Cracking. (25th September)

Full of indecisions I left todays polish choice to my seven year old Daughter and she chose Sinful Colors See You Soon and a W7 crackle in Earthquake Gold. I was quite dubious of her choices but as they were two untried polishes I went with it. The See You Soon applied watery and streaky on the first coat but became even on the second coat, The Crackle however was a different story, it had kind of seperated in the bottle so I had to give it a really really good shake and it was very thick on application, you need to work quickly because it starts to “crackle” quickly and if you go over where you have already applied it becomes lumpy, it didnt look too promising for me but luckily I didnt have to reapply to any nails and when I applied the top coat it deepened the gold to a lovely shade. These nails scream “look at me” and look at them people did. I will let my Daughter choose my colours more often.

Stamping Success (Kind Of) – (26th September)

I wanted to try my stamping kit again as I have ordered a twelve plate set from the internet and though I better get some practice in, I have been struggling to find any colours that transfer well so I was pleased when I discovered that Sinful Colors Mercury Rising transferred good, soooo I chose Essie – Muchi Muchi as a base colour which I applied over the top my Essie Fill The Gap Base Coat. The formula of Muchi Muchi was very inconsistent and apllied a bit like a mixture of Jelly and PVA glue. I painted on three coats and its still transparent and also significant bubbling in some places. Its a real shame as this is the most gorgeous nude pink I have ever come across and if it applied correctly it would be my Holy Grail polish. It took an hour until this was enough for me to be confident to stamp on it, I chose a flowerish desgin and applied following the instructions and I’m pretty happy with the results, obviously I need more practice with centering the image but now I am keen to keep trying. After all my failures I was ready to chuck the towel in.

Pink Sparkles, Purple Stars. (27th September)

I started this mani with no idea what I was aiming for. I have too many polishes and I’m buying them quicker than I can use them so I am going to try and out myself on a ban until I have worn at least %80 of what I already have.. I chose NYC’s MoMa as my main colour and applied it over one coat of Essie’s Fill The Gap, MoMa is a watery formula that ran onto my cuticles, it was difficult to distribute product evenly and still sign of nail line after three coats, it looked really think but dried suprisingly fast.

I then attempted to paint on a coat of my new Pink Glitter polish.

From looking at the bottle this looks so pretty and full of glitter, don’t let that fool you, this was the biggest load of crap I have ever used, there is no colour to the liquid and it picks up a very very small amount of glitter, so small its not worth bothering with, it fact Barbie could shit out more pink glitter than this puts on the brush. It stinks too, like creosolt(sp) that stuff you paint wood with? My 7 year old daughter refuses to have it and she loves pink sparkles. One for the bin I think, I just hope the other two from the set are better..

My Daughter said it looked like a pink sky with not many stars so I painted on some stars using my Technic purple nail polish, the brush was easy enough to control even with my non dominant hand but the polish has a tendancy to run down the brush so you need to work quick. WShe wanted more sparkly stars so slapped on a coat of Sally Hansens Twinkle Twinkle and then a coat of Sally Hansens Mega Shine. In hindsight I should have applied Twinkle Twinkle before I painted the purple stars and the glitter block some of its visibility. The image is of my right hand which has been painted painted by my non dominant left hand. Not bad eh?

Another Cracker (September 28th)

I could not wait to get rid of the glitter star manicure because my nails still smelt of that awful pink glitter crap. To make my choice I basically closed my eyes and grabbed a random polish from the shelf which happened to be Technic Pastels in Shade Lollipop. I usually like Technic products because they are cheap and of good quality, they also are pretty good at following on trend items. This product however is a fail for me. I adore the shade and as its the only pastel yellow I have I’ll hang on to it for now. The formula is thick, I usually do one stroke down on each side of my nail and this covers the whole nail, this polish wanted to sit on the middle of the nail in one big thick river and took a lot of working to get it to even out, by which time it had started to dry so I had significant brush strokes set into the polish.  Despite its heavy consistency this is quite transparent, I applied five coats and you could still see through it so I went and got a pink Technic crackle I’d not yet used to make it look better and cover the transparency, I love how a crackle polish can totally change the look of a boring polish. Well what can I say? the crackle made me happy with the Technic brand again and applied like a dream even though it was a thick texture. Im not too sure about how these work together as a colour combination but like always I will leave it for at least a day.

September 30th

Im posting a day early because tomorrow will be a very special blog entry for me and I dont wanna bombard you all with too many posts. Ive spent the last couple of swatching some colours for tomorrows nails, which I will tell you all about then. I soo cant wait.

Always Romantic. (17th Sept)

We didnt get finished painting our living room until 11pm on Monday evening and I was dog tired but the chips in my Essie – Navigate Her were driving me so potty and I had to remove it, I should have left well alone as I knew I didnt have time to allow polish to dry but I ignored myself and quickly applied my Essie base coat (this drys in seconds its amazing) and painted on a coat of Revlons Colorstay Always Romantic, its a lovely red/brown colour. I chose the colorstay as it always lasts ages on me, I end up removing because I am bored, not because of chipping. Its a thick jelly type formula which applies quickly and easily. The first coat dried and I hopped into bed thinking I’d get another coat on in the morning, sadly I was running late and got straight into the decorating and my polish chipped before I could take a photo, you must need two coats to get a longer lasting mani….. Is it bad that I feel like repainting them just to take a photo? I dont like the blank spot lol.

Purple Rain. (18th Sept)

Due to the turps and other painting chemicals from yesterday my cuticles were pretty dry, whilst in B & M looking for a rug my husband noticed Sally Hansen’s Cuticle Remover Gel and put it in the basket for me, how good is he? so after using this, I applied a coat of my Essie Base Coat follwed by two coats of Rimmels Purple Rain. This is a very deep dark purple jelly formula which my Daughter describes as “undead”. I think I should have applied a third coat but again it was late and I was tired..

Case Study (19th Sept)

Depressingly Purple Rain had chipped badly on several nails by lunchtime which dissapointed me as its supposed to be a long wearing polish, the bottle claims up to ten days, I narely got ten minutes,  anyway I removed it and applied Sally Hansens Quick Care Strenghtening Treatment as my nails are becoming brittle, followed by two thin coats of Essie’s Base Coat, then two coats of Essie’s Case Study and a coat of Essie’s Instant Dry Oil Protecter. It dries much darker than it appears in the bottle but I still like it. It reminds me of melted milk chocolate – yummy. I hope I get a few days out of this as I like it so much.

Talk Dirty and Carnival (20th September)

My Case study is still going strong today which impresses me as they took quite a battering today. The end of decorating my home and giving each room a good clean is starting to come to an end. Still a lot to do but the light is at the end of the tunnel now. I cant believe how much crap is in this house, just random bits of junk and sentimental stuff. I’ve had to be ruthless and bin it which required two skip trips with another two planned tomorrow.

The nails – I have found that painting my nails helps me relax, my fiance thinks Im bonkers painting my nails so late at night but some relax with a glass of wine, for now, adding colour to my nails cheers me up, as it was late I didnt want to remove Case Study so I applied a coat of Talk Dirty, which I knew from swatching is sheer on its own.  Applied over Case Study it turns a very dark brown, in the bottle you can see a gold shimmer which dissapointingly does not show up the nails in any kind of light, they didn’t look quite right and I was going to remove and start from scratch but then I added two coats of Carnival. Whilst in the bottle it looks jam packed with glitter its actually awkward getting it onto the brush, its also tricky to get the glitter to apply evenly so I had to poke the brush around quite a bit which I didnt actually mind as I found it theraputic. I’m a weird one right? Topped off with a coat of Sally Hansens Mega Shine. The colours in this reminds me of fairgrounds but with the brown underneath I think of Autumn and bonfire night and fireworks. If your gonna use Carnival I suggest being near an open window as the odour is stronger than most polishes. Im still not sure I like it but I cant be arsed removing glitter at this time of night so its staying for the day at least.

I did enjoy arranging my polishes onto a shelf I managed to clear, its nice to walk into my room and look at them all neatly lined up :)

 Pretty Pastels. – (21st September)

The amount of work that is still in the to do has really got to me today, I could see the end yesterday and thought I’d be finished today but there was a lot more to do than I originally thought. How much crap can house hold? A lot. I bought two new polishes today in an effort to cheer myself up but it when it came to painting my nails I decided they were too dark, (Essie – Orange Its Obvious and Carry On) I wanted something that would help lift my mood and I’m trying to work my way through my whole polish collection, we are also going to a local fete tomorrow. I liked my spotted manicure from last week so I decided to do another, I began with Sally Hansens Strenghtening Treatment and two coats of Essie’s Base coat, this time I chose Revlon’s Cloud, Blue Lagoon and Sunshine Sparkle, all nice cheerful happy names,  then added contrasting dots using a bobby pin. They are no where near as neat as I would have liked but they shall have to do. All of these polishes required three coats as its quite a sheer watery formula, I find this with a lot of revlon polishes and it took forever to dry, its almost midnight and they are still wet after applying at ten pm. Im going to have sheet prints on them in the morning :) They may look a bit naff to others but I actually quite like them, kind of reminds me of those hand-made quilted blankets, which I love.

Did you spot my mistake? I meant to put blue dots on the lilac nails, if anyone noticed they were polit enough not to say :)

Add a Bit Of Glitter – (22nd September)

Had a lovely day today at the local fete/fair event. My little girl won a heap of prizes on the tombolas, it wasn’t really a suprise as she is always lucky with things like that, we all had a lie down on the sofas when we got back and watched old episodes of One Foot In The Grave.  Its been a really relaxing day, I love days like this. Because I didn’t want too much faff I decided leave my nails as they are and just add a few extra dots with different colours to correct my mistake and I then added a coat of Claire’s purple and green glitter polish followed by Sally Hansens Mega Shine top coat, I’m not to happy with the glitter but my Daughter chose it and so it will stay, everytime I look down at my hands I’m reminded what a fantastic family I have.

Half And Half – (23rd September)

Sundays are my favourite days for painting my nails. Its the day where I carry out all my little rituals like shave my legs, tweeze my eyebrows and such. I have much more time to spend painting my nails on a Sunday so I like to try and make them a bit more dramtic. On looking at the large tree outside my window you can see the leaves starting to turn brown and orange and its those two colours which inspired my choice of colours which are  Essie  in shades Orange,Its Obvious and Carry On. I painted each nail in alternating colours and then allowed it to dry completley, I then painted the top half of each nail in opposite colours.

The Orange was the easiest to apply and the Carry On was a bit of a nightmare, the brush is a lot thinner and the formula is quite watery so it made streaks, you couldn’t really judge how much product you had your brush so as you can see I made a bit a bit of a mess, saying that I do like the effect of this and its a technique that I will certainley use with other combinations of colours. I will make sure to use tape for a neater line though, my freehand version is a bit messy..

Im stuck choosing a favourite this week as I like the Case Study and Half and Half, what do you think?

{September 10, 2012}   Nails Of The Week #1

Along with my new love of make up I also discovered a love of Nail Polish. I love love bright colours and nail polish allows me to show that without looking like a clown. I have collected quite a few over the last few months and Im currently working on swatching them all and putting them into some kind of order.

I have decided that on Mondays I will post what I have been wearing on my nails the previous week,  I usually wear my polish until the first chip appears or I’ll change when Im bored.  I am pretty useless at applying polish so don’t be suprised to find my fingers covered :) If you can reccomend any good techniques that would be great.

W7 – Mosaic.

I bought this after reading a review on alicab’s blog – (sorry I dont know how to link) where she discovered that this is a very good dupe for “Nails Inc – Pudding Lane” there are other shades in this range and I already have Lava Flow, I think I will pass on Salt and Pepper as they are botha bit similar. Pop over to Aliciab’s blog for swatches on all three. I wore this for two days before becoming bored and wanting a change. This only had slight tip wear despite me doing some heavy duty housework. I will say that due to the amount of glitter this was an utter pain to remove.

This was my first attempt at sponging and Im quite happy with how it turned out, I got two days out of this before I got a massive chip, so off it came. First I used Boots Natural Collection French tip whitener, then I applied Rimmel-  Sunrise, Rimmel – Peardrop, Rimmel camoflage and Essie – To Buy Or Not To Buy to a peice of make up sponge and dabbed it on at random over my white base. Im pleased with how the cours came out in pastel shades as they are really bright in the bottle (swatches to come later). I was already becoming board the next day so I applied Revlon Sweet Nothings – Satin Sheets over the top which gave a lovely milky glittery affect, I removed because I wanted a change, no chipping after two days. *Note to self* Remember to tape up fingers next time….

This is my first and probably last attempt at marbeling with water. I wont go into details about it as there are hundreds of you-tube videos on this method. I had fun doing this but not cleaning up afterwards. I applied a white base to begin with and then used Boots Natural Collection in shades – winter moon – topaz and lunar haze. I got bored of this quickly and removed after one day. If I ever did this again I will add more polish to the water for brighter colours.

I decided to cut my nails back to make them all one lengh, this is the shortest my nails have been for a very long time but I like them, after giving my hands a bit of a pamper and a good soak I applied Rimmel – Black Cherries and I was really please with this colour and also this is my tidiest ever application of varnish. I only removed because it peeled off in the bath the following day.

And this is what my nails look like today. I have used Rimmel – Pear Drop as the main colour and Essie – To Buy or Not To Buy for the tips. I’m not to sure how I feel about it but there are no signs of chips so I’ll leave it for now. Pear Drop looks a greenish shade in the bottles but once dry it looks more blue on me. *edit* I removed on tuesday 11th september so got a good three days out of this, I ould have got longer if I touched up the tips but I was keen to change.

How often do you change your polish? What are your favourite techniques for applying?

Thank you for reading and for any comments…..
