{December 22, 2012}   Out With The Old, In With The New.

Things have been so busy here that I’ve not really had time to post much due to Christmas and all it brings with it. I’m not feeling the Christmas vibe this year at all, I’m excited to see my Daughter open her gifta but have not experienced the usual rush I get about this time of year, I actually feel pretty grumpy.

I have been reflecting on the past year a lot, which is something I’m sure that many people do as the New Year approaches. 2012 has been a big emotional rollercoaster for me, some of the most important things have happened to me this year.

In January I suddenly lost my Father, he was 56 and just going about his normal daily crap when he had a massive heart attack and died. I wont bullshit and say he was the perfect Father, nor was I the perfect Daughter, we both made mistakes and he died with an unresolved issue clouding our relationship, but at the end of the day I know he loved me and I deeply hope he knew I loved him, and that’s what I focus on when I think of him. I miss him much, much more than I thought was possible and some days I forget he is gone and do silly things like go to call him, time is not healing for me just yet as it still feels raw, I can’t believe almost a year has passed. Christmas this year will be very different without him.

I have had health problems of my own, I had a lump in my armpit which turned out to be nothing serious but with a history of breast cancer in my family it was a worrying few months, I blogged about my weight a while back and nothing has changed on that situation, I’m not losing anymore but I’m not gaining any either.

In October I got married, I have been with my man for almost 13 years now, we had a ten-year engagement and I thought we would never get round to getting married, we were never going to have the big white wedding as the thought of that fills me with diarrhea, we wanted to piss off abroad to somewhere hot, but something always came up meaning it never happened, this year we just thought fuck it and booked the registry office in the next town  and got married in secret. Everything about it was perfect.

I know, it’s a cliché, but the biggest lesson I have learnt in 2012 is that life really is too short and you don’t know what is just around the corner. 2013 will be the year I grab life with both hands and stop giving a shiny shit what others think of me. More of that in my next post.

What big lessons has 2012 brought for you? Has in been a good year, or a shit one?

{December 17, 2012}   Nails Of The Week #14

Aplogies for the rushed post, with xmas coming so quickly things have been so busy. I have updated my swatch page for anyone who is interested. I have been drawn to Summery colours this week. Its freezing here and looking at a bit of colour cheers me up a little. My nails seem to be taking forever to grow back.

Rimmel 60 Seconds

Rimmel 60 Seconds, Funtime Fuscia and Sunrise, both are lovely to work with, great formula and fast drying.

Tuesday, Rimmel Lasting Finish, Double Esspresso.

Tuesday, Rimmel Lasting Finish, Double Esspresso. I cant say anything about this polish, the formula is good, drying time is good, everything is good so I dont know why I feel blegh about this one.  Its just,,,,, blegh.

Wednesday

Wednesday, Technic Tawny Port. Recieved in my Beauty Box subscription, one of the worst polishes I have ever used, which is a shame as Technic are usually good polishes. The chipping started within a few mins of drying and massive chunks has chipped off by morning. I was planning on regifting this but I’m not that mean, its in the bin.

Thursday - Another hit from the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range.

Thursday – Sally Hansen, Casting Call. Another hit from the Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure range, purchased in Poundland. I went back for more shades and these are selling really quickly. Streaky on the first coat but it evened itself out on the 2nd (and last) coat.  Big brush which I love.

Friday - Rimmel Lasting Finish, All Spice. I only paid 50p for this and for that price it performed well, I need four coats as its quite sheer, which meant it took longer to dry, but considering the amounts of coats a ten min wait is pretty reasonable I think. I love the shade but I dont think it suits me, maybe with a tan it would be better?

Saturday-Sally Hansen Extreme Wear, Emerald City. Watery formula and a skinny brush made this tricky to apply, I used three coats in total as its not as opaque as it looks. Chipped the next day, same as the others I've tried from the Extreme Wear range.

Sunday. I've not used pink in a while and have been unlucky with every attempt at using Essie's Mod Squad. I always smudge it, so I decided to give it another go, it turned out ok, I aded two coats of Calvin Kliens Hallucinate for sparkles. Hate those tiny square calvin Klien lids, you need to hold it at an angle in order for the brush to be flat on your nails.

You can probably guess from my title that I’m not happy with my box this month. The box was late and because I’ve waited in everday for the parcel since the 4th December I wasn’t in the bestest of moods to begin with, their customer services could do with a shake up too. There are still several unanswered posts about missing boxes on their customer forums from several days ago yet complaints through Facebook are answered within the hour. Not everyone is on Facebook, not everyone wants to be either.

SheSaidBeauty costs £9 a month plus £2.95 p+p, you fill out a profile on registration, in which you tell SheSaidBeauty the kind of products you are interested in and ones you are not. You also fill out information about your hair colour, skin tone etc.

I thought this was for the purpose of customising the box, but I’ve since learnt from a SheSaidBeauty employee they don’t use the profiles in that way, products are selected at random and the profiles are for market research to send subscribers offers etc, that explains the influx of emails I’ve had since joining. If I had known this on registration I would not have filled out the bloody survey.  It also explains why people with fair skin get dark fake tan samples.  You are meant to receieve 5 “deluxe” samples each month, Im not sure if “deluxe” refers to the brand or size but either way its a fail.

I have zero interest in skincare, I’m happy with what I use and if I mess about trying other stuff I usually break out. I joined primarily for make-up items ( the only category I checked as very interested in) and whilst I dont expect a box full of of make-up I do expect variety.  I have recieved 15 plus samples from my three boxes and out of these only two have been make-up items and the rest has been mostly skincare.

I caved and had a sneek peek at the products on offer and I was pretty excited as there was a couple of make-items and coloured contacts, I wrongly assumed that I’d get at least one in my box. From reading the reviews it seems that a lot of people who want skincare have gotten the cosmetics and vice versa.

I’ve rambled on enough, I am cancelling my subscription as out of my three boxes costing over £30 I’ve only had one product that I’ve actually used on a regular basis, whilst others may be happy with thier boxes, its just not for me and that £30 could have been well spent on products I actually want.  I may try another subscription service, Im still undecied. Sorry for the rant, here’s what I got in my box.

BaoBab Regenerating and Firming Body Oil. £35 for 100ml.This is a decent sample size of 30ml oil is something I very rarely use

Minvita BaoBab Regenerating and Firming Body Oil. £35 for 100ml.
This is a decent sample size of 30ml oil is something I very rarely use becaue I hate the feeling of it on my skin. For those who like this kind of thing its a decent enough amount of product to give a proper trial.

111220122337

Dr Duve Skin Boosting Cream – £129 for 50ml
Dr Duve Anti Ageing and Firming Eye Cream – £115 for 30ml
These two tiny sachets make up two of my five items. If had that kind of money to spends on creams, there is no way I would do so based on using these two sachets. Its kind of an insult that these have counted as two products.

YaNa Kiss Savon Noir - £10 for 400gDont be fooled by the paper tied up with string, beyond that is a little clear tub, like the ones you get dips in from takeaways, I get bad reactions from soaps so avoid it, the smell of this is not to great either, my Daughter describes it as "rhubarb erupting from a volcano"

111220122336

Technic Nail Polish – Tawny Port – £1.25 for 12ml
The last of my five items is a nail polish, its the only full sized product in the five items. I have nothing against the brand Technic and I already own several products from this brand including nail polish, but I have seen this particular polish on sale for 50p so I assumed it to be a dud. I gave it a quick swatch and once it was dried it chipped straight away, the colour is like dozens I have already so this will be going into my little sisters stocking.

Technic Nail Polish. Chipping started a few mins after drying.

111220122338

Amie Spring Clean Cooling Clay Mask. Full Sized 15ml Sachet £1.50
Jing Whole Leaf Teabags £5.40 for 15 bags or £30 for 100
Because these are bonus items I don’t like to moan about them but to be honest, its freezing here in the UK and I wont be putting anything cooling on my face anytime soon. I’ll prob use this in the Spring when its a warmer climate, or pack for my Spanish holidays.
I have had green tea before and almost vomitted my lunch up so these will be passed on, if I can find someone who likes them.

Monday - Rimmel 60 Seconds - Green With Envy.

Monday – Rimmel 60 Seconds – Green With Envy.
For some reason this is the only polish in the 60 second range that I own with the smaller brush, because this is a thicker formula it makes application tricky for me, two coats needed and totally worth the hassle. Fourth time I’ve worn this, which is a record.

Tuesday - Revlon Matte Suede - Ruby Ribbon.

Tuesday – Revlon Matte Suede – Ruby Ribbon.
I hunted this one down after falling in love with Emerald City from the same range, again this is semi matte and very fast drying, so fast that it dried whilst I was dipping my brush for more product, so I had to remove the first coat as it turned gloopy, I don’t like these smaller brushes but the color and finish make up for the chew on.

Wednesday - Rimmel Lasting Finish - Rose Orchid and Funky Diva.

Wednesday – Rimmel Lasting Finish – Rose Orchid and Funky Diva.
Rose Orchid looked like a pastel shimmery milky pink in the bottle but kind of blended in with my natural colour on the nail, I was expecting this to be sheer as most pale colours are but it was totally opaque after two coats. I painted my ring finger with Funky DIva and used two coats, I have no idea what happened as it turned matte when it dried yet the dots stayed glossy, if you look closely you can see the glossy finish where I didnt paint over the first coat with my second coat. Weird.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon manicure - Navy Baby.I fell in love with the colour as soon as I saw it in the bottle. I love the Complete Salon Manicure range and have seen so many shades that I would like. It claims to include a base coat and top coat all in the one formula, I've not tried it without a base coat but I can get away without a top coat when wearing these. The large shaped brush can be tricky but I know that once I have mastered it, it will make application so much easier. I expected staining because of the intense colour but my nails are clean as a whistle ( apart from previous staining)

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Dorien Grey.Another great shade from the Complete Salon Manicure Range. I thought this one may have required more coats as its a light colour but two was all that I needed. I ended up using a top coat with this one as it didnt dry as shiney as Navy Baby. These have a decent drying time, I was able to use my hands for most household crap after 5 mins, with a neater application than I managed this range has the potential to look like a professional manicure.

Saturday - FAILLLLL Im going to a concert tonight and wanted my nails to stand out so I tried to a camouflage design with metallics, it looked awful so I removed it.

Because I wasted so much time on the failed nail design I had to polish my nails quick so I painted alternating nails with L.A Colours – Nuclear Energy and Revlon – Gold coin. Nuclear energy required three coats, quite happy with the colour and formula, decent drying time too, Gold Coin seems to have dried up, I only bought it a month or so ago, I think it may something to do with how I store them as I noticed another polish almost totally dried out which I only bought in Summer, kind of like the fluid has gone but the glitter is left behind. I managed to get it to apply even and I like how it looks textured but feels nice and smooth on the nail. You cant see it but I added alternating uv and glow top coats so im covered whatever the lighting is at the concert.

I was recently tagged for The Leibster Award byProduct Hoochie, No Bottle Left Behind.,nattan23 and Nail Art For Funn. Thank you so so much for thinking of me. I would have loved to have done four seperate posts but the truth is I’m a lazy cow so I’m gonna cheat and skip the 11 facts (I am boring trust me) and answer a few of the questions from all four of you, and I tag anyone who’s name begins with a P.

20121124-181634.jpg

So what is the Liebster Blog Award?

It’s an award that was reputedly started in Germany in order to give smaller bloggers recognition for their hard work. You receive this award from a fellow blogger that feels your blog is both worthy & important to them.

The rules are:

1) Post eleven facts about yourself

2) Answer the questions the tagger has set for you and create eleven questions for people you’ve nominated

3) Choose eleven people to give this award to (with fewer than 200 followers) and link them in your post

4) Go to their page and tell them

5) Remember, no tag backs

Here We Go!

If you could have ANY super power what would you have?

I would love to be able to time travel. I’d go back and correct all the mistakes I have made in the past.

Would you get plastic surgery?

I have always said that I’d love a boob job and the ones I have a non existent but I actually think that if I ever had the money I’d wuss out.

Do you think an engagement ring should be a suprise or should the woman pick it herself?

Either way is good but I’d prefer it to be a suprise but that backfired on my Husband, he gave me the ring on Christmas day twelve years ago but sadly it was way too big, I wanted to show it off, especially to his ex ( I was 21 back then ) so wore it under a ring that fitted me, to cut a long story short, I got drunk on boxing day, fell and lost both rings. He bought me the same one a few weeks later in a size that fit.

What makes you really happy?

I am truly happy when its a weekend and my Daughter, Husband and I are at home with no plans. We don’t bother getting dressed, we eat shite all day, watch cheesey films, have a nap and just generally potter about the house. Bliss.

What perfume do you like most?

Dot by Marc Jacobs – which can be bought in most high street stores that sell perfume, or if you can’t get away from your wife you could order online, but make sure to get the 50ml size as the bottle is cuter. – hint hint husband.

What is your favorite book?

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. I always read this book once a year and my copy is all creased and battered now, I always cry at the end and if I ever have another child I would to name them after the two main chartacters. Rudy for a boy and Liesel for a girl.

What’s your favorite TV show?

An Idiot Abroad. I love Karl Pilkington and his idiotic theories. Ricky Gervais is a bit of an annoying pillock though. That laugh sets my teeth on edge.

How many kids do you have or see yourself having?

I have a Daughter who is fastly approaching eight years old. She is the best thing I have ever done with my life and I am so so so proud of her. We must have gone right somewhere as she is the best behaved hard working child I have ever known (Im biased though). She gets her brains from her Dad and her looks from me. Just kidding, the brains and looks both come from me :) I could not imagine loving anyone as much as I love her.

Wine or Beer?

Niether, give me a vodka or a cocktail everytime.

Which celeb would you want to rescue you from a situation? (any situation)

Karl Pilkington or Kieth Lemon. Both are so funny that it would take my mind off whatever the situation is that I was being rescued from.

What’s your favorite accessory?

This year I have been wearing a lot of scarves, not so much because of trends but because its absolutley freaking freezing at the moment. Im even wearing one in bed.

There we go all done, thank you again for thinking of me.

{December 5, 2012}   Husband, shopping and me.

I have been married for just over two months now but I have been with my Husband for almost thirteen years. We are not the most romantic of couples, you wont find us walking round the street holding hands or kissing in the cinema, but I know he loves me and I love him as much as I did when I first met him, if not more,  2012 has been eventful, I lost my Dad suddenly earlier in the year and I’m so glad I had my Husband in my life. He stopped me from going to pieces and kept life normal for me.

Like I said we’re not romantic of couples but every now and then he does something that suprises me, If you read my nails of the week then you will know that I usually use Essie’s Fill The Gap Base Coat. I paid £3 for it and had been unable to find it again for anywhere near that price, £9 was the cheapest I found,  until my husband offered to drive me to another branch of the store a few towns away as he had a few days off work.

I found my base coat and we also called in Poundland and not only did he not moan but he also rummaged amongst the cosmetics to find me bargains, I didn’t even have to tell him which brands to look for, my chatter must have sunk in somewhere along the line. We may not be love’s young dream but when I looked across at my stocky skinheaded man rummaging through rails of ladies cosmetics full of determination I felt so loved and happy.

*I’m not telling him it would have been cheaper to just pay the £9 for my base coat :)
